Here’s some sage advice in the form of a flowchart as to whether or not you should check your email. Courtesy of Maria Popova’s Explore project – a treasure trove of knowledge, insight, and cyber-loafing fodder for idle moments.

When you hear that ‘ping’ sound that a new message has come in, or the red light is flashing on your work Blackberry, or it’s been 5 minutes since you last checked, what are you supposed to do? Hint: if it’s mealtime and you’re sitting down with family, or out with friends, the answer is DON’T CHECK. It can wait.
